About business matters

We are a charitable trust set up in 2006 by a group of Christian businessmen and women who want to be of service to their neighbours in the world of work.

The Trustees include two lawyers, an actuary, an accountant, two IT consultants, a financial analyst and an energy consultant.  They want to serve their neighbours in the workplace, but because they hold down demanding jobs and cannot make themselves available as they would like, they have appointed a staff team comprising Ruth Penman, full time Executive Director, Eric Smith, part time Consultant and Wilma Craig, volunteer Administrator.

Trustees and staff, we are here to serve our neighbours.  We have lots of experience, expertise, plans and ideas about how we can do this, and we would like to hear from you about any issues in the world of work that are of concern to you – just contact us.

Our raison-d'être is to serve all who work in the offices by:

• fostering a sense of community through various kinds of events

• providing lunchtime talks of a CPD standard on matters affecting our work life but not already covered by HR departments or in-house training

• offering a listening, trusted ear and signposting to expert help, both of a professional / work sort and of a personal / private nature. This support is designed to supplement what HR departments and helplines offer.

• laying on opportunities for spiritual exploration, to help people make connections between work life and spirituality, eg the Business Alpha Edinburgh course.

Our events – though generally free – will always be of a high quality.

We Trustees, together with Ruth, Eric and Wilma look forward to serving you and any with whom you put us in contact.
