Faith v Atheism debate

A special Edinburgh International Festival debate
Saturday 9 August 11am, Usher Hall, ending 12.30

World-class, eminent thinkers and debaters are coming to the market-place, indeed the very heart of the Edinburgh business community.  We in business matters are pleased to publicise this unique occasion in the public square.

Lined up against each other will be Christian apologist John Lennox and "new atheist" Christopher Hitchens.  The motion will be:

'The New Europe should prefer the New Atheism'

Would the new Europe of nations be better off jettisoning its religious past and welcoming the new atheism?  A discussion between a scientist who thinks God is great and a cultural commentator who doesn't.  Moderated by James Naughtie of Radio 4's Today programme.  Take your stand in this impassioned debate.

Tickets £10.  For students and school-aged: just £5

Book online or call 0131 473 2000. Bring friends!

In association with The Trinity Forum and The Fixed Point Foundation

More on the speakers going head to head:

Dr John Lennox is a Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy and Chaplain at Green College, Oxford and Christopher Hitchens is a journalist, television commentator and author of God Is Not Great: The case against religion   These two men are gifted debaters, and fiercely competitive.  Some would say the latter speaker is better described as a polemicist and controversialist.
