Resilience – that ability to bounce back from, or adapt to, difficult circumstances. People who are more resilient commonly have more of a sense of meaning and purpose in life, an optimism matched with an ability to find solutions and be creative day to day.
Some find this elusive quality something of a conundrum. When faced with the varying demands of work, they can often leave us not only stressed, but also feeling that we somehow have a deficit in the resilience stakes! We all know those folk who appear to have a strong sense of self, take care of themselves and have what seems like limitless ability and energy.
When we reflect on 2015 and our Resilience@Work series we are delighted to have heard from many how much of an impact our CPD talks over the course of last year have helped people. They have given information, techniques and tools; helping individuals and, in turn, some of their colleagues. If there were any talks you missed they are all available in the resources section of our website. The talks explore a range of topics focusing on some of the aspects of how, as individuals in the workplace, we might develop the characteristics of, and capacity for, a resilient working life. There are topics from motivation to equality and diversity; we even have a talk with ideas for nutrition that will optimise your energy@work!
And, encouragingly, we have to remember that resilience is not something with which some people are born and others not; rather it is a quality we can actively nurture.
